Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Advisor to the Lt. Governor, emphasized the need for vibrant infrastructure development in villages during a meeting at the Civil Secretariat, Leh, on April 22. The meeting aimed to address the submission of 41 new works, withdrawal of 20 proposed works, and responses to queries on 13 works under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), focusing on successful implementation on the ground.
Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhdeve initiated the meeting, presenting roadmaps and action plans for various projects covered under the VVP.
Dr. Kotwal underscored the significance of infrastructure and sustainable development, urging officials to ensure that designated villages achieve their goals to become truly ‘vibrant.’ He stressed the importance of meeting international standards in infrastructure development to attract more visitors to these villages.
Dr. Kotwal emphasized the construction of community buildings using local traditional technology and soliciting technical inputs from local architects to make them solar passive, winter-friendly, and usable year-round. He also highlighted the need for a plan for handing over and managing/operating infrastructure as part of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Dr. Kotwal directed all concerned officials to develop attractive designs for their infrastructural proposals and projects, with a deadline for submission set for May 1, 2024.
The meeting was attended by various administrative secretaries and the Deputy Commissioner, representing key departments such as School Education, Health & Medical Education, Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Social and Tribal Welfare, Public Works Department (Roads & Buildings), Irrigation & Flood Control, Power/Youth Services, and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs.
