Arrests Made in Leh Drug Peddling Case: Crackdown on Narcotics Trade

On June 27, during routine patrolling in and around Leh market, the District Police Leh apprehended two individuals involved in drug peddling. The arrests were made by officers who were conducting regular patrols in the area.

One of the arrested individuals, identified as Abdul Majid, a resident of Chute-Rantak Leh and the owner of a meat shop at Nowshera Market Leh, was found in possession of approximately 135 grams of a substance resembling Charas. The investigation into the case led to the discovery of another suspect, Thinles Gyatso, who runs a bike rental shop at Zangsti. Approximately 206 grams of a similar Charas-like substance were recovered from his rental room near Zangsti.

The case has been registered with FIR No 96/2023 under sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act at the Police Station Leh. Preliminary investigations suggest that these individuals were involved in selling drugs at inflated prices to local youth and tourists.

The District Police Leh urges the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers and to collaborate with the Ladakh Police in their efforts to combat the menace of drug abuse in the district. Informants can maintain their anonymity and share information through www.drugsfreeleh.com or by contacting the Anti-Narcotic Unit of District Police Leh at mobile number 9541900291 or landline number 01982-252200.
