The Department of Information and Public Relations hosted a capacity-building workshop for journalists at the Bharat Hotel on April 18. The workshop comprised three sessions covering various pertinent topics.
In the first session, subjects such as media writing, convergence strategies, the role of social media, and digital PR were discussed. Renowned journalist Soumitra Bose commended the Ladakh media for their dedication to enhancing their skills and highlighted the distinctions between working for governmental departments versus traditional media or social platforms.
Bose underscored the importance of media convergence and the amplifying role of social media in disseminating messages. He also stressed the significance of digital PR and its effective implementation through convergence strategies, emphasizing the goal of enhancing coverage and visibility among diverse audiences.
The second session, led by Dr. Tundup Namgyal, Assistant Director of the Information Department Leh, focused on the media’s role in ensuring free and transparent elections. Dr. Namgyal emphasized adherence to the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee guidelines, pre-certification of political advertisements, and the importance of distinguishing between paid and genuine news to uphold electoral integrity.
The final session, led by Sub Inspector Mohd Ali, addressed the emerging trends in cybercrime in Leh and discussed countermeasures. Ali highlighted the importance of public education, particularly targeting students, the military, and law enforcement, regarding technology and internet safety.
The workshop concluded with Assistant Information Officer (AIO) Rinchen Dolma expressing gratitude to all participants, including private media personnel, information department staff, and students from EJM College.
