Interest programme on Drug use& Illicit Trafficking held

Into the family unit Welfare Department, Leh beneath the aegis of the region specific Mental Health Program( NMHP) witnessed International Day against Drug Neglect and Illicit Trafficking themed ‘Addressing drug challenges in health insurance and humanitarian crisis’ on June 22 at the College of Ladakh, Taru Thang, Leh.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, PD Nitya emphasized the value of such events and said that almost every country nowadays is facing the menace of pill abuse and stressed the need for awareness among all.

During the event Status Nodal Officer, National Mental Wellbeing Program, Psychiatrist, Dr. Padma Angmo presented a presentation on Pill Abuse& Illicit trafficking. The woman focused on substance misuse disorders and the harmful effects of substance use. She also briefed the participants about the troubles of drug abuse and how it influences the body and mind .

Further, Doctor Padma prepared that the day is also marked to strengthen action as well as cooperation to achieve a society that is free of substance abuse.

Earlier, a debate competition on the theme ‘A person dependent on drugs needs punishment, not treatment’ was held where students of the campus participated and supplied their speeches.

Director, University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, Konchok Angmo, State Nodal Officer, NMHP, Mental health specialist, Doctor Padma Angmo, Dean of Student Welfare, UoL, Dr. Jigmet, teachers and students of Federal Middle School, Taru, Supporting personnel, participants and students of the UoL were present on the event.
