On February 19th, the city of Leh erupted in joyful celebration to mark the birth anniversaries of His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and His Eminence Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche. The festivities took place at the historic Shey Naro Photang monastery, drawing a vibrant crowd of devotees and dignitaries.
The celebration commenced with a solemn procession, carrying a ceremonial portrait of His Holiness to the main shrine. This was followed by the offering of intricate mandalas and larnas, symbolizing peace and prosperity. The air filled with melodies as students from Druk Padma Karpo School sang heartfelt birthday wishes for the revered spiritual leaders, culminating in the joyous cutting of birthday cakes.
Nuns presented mesmerizing chotdro performances, and the esteemed Ven. Jigmet Lundup of Hemis Monastery shared illuminating insights into the biographies of His Holiness and His Eminence.
Expressing his profound gratitude, His Eminence Thuksey Rinpoche warmly thanked the people of Ladakh and the Druk Padma Karpo School for their vibrant celebration. He spoke with deep affection about his birthplace, Ladakh, and the unwavering love and support he has received from the community.
His address emphasized his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Ladakh, highlighting the crucial role of education in empowering future generations. He urged the community to unite in their pursuit of collective progress and upliftment across all spheres, extending beyond his spiritual teachings.
The celebration reverberated with the spirit of unity and cultural pride. Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi commended the innovative education system of Druk Padma Karpo School, which emphasizes values aligned with environmental sustainability.
Brigadier S. Pradeep Kumar commemorated the enduring relationship between the local community and Hemis Monastery. He lauded His Eminence’s invaluable contributions to society, particularly his efforts in promoting gender equality, education empowerment, and supporting various humanitarian causes through NGOs.
The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by captivating cultural performances presented by Shey villagers, the Young Drukpa Association, Rup Show, Korzok, SAVE, and the White Lotus Band.
