Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, and his First Lady Neelam Mishra attended an Iftar party hosted by Anjuman Imamia Leh at the Imam Bargah in Leh main market on April 9th. The event was attended by political, religious, and government officials from all faiths.
At the outset, the LG saluted the Holy Quran and expressed his appreciation to Anjuman Imamia Leh for inviting him to the Iftar. He was pleased with the participation of people from all faiths and stressed the importance of brotherhood, peace, and helping those in need as mentioned in the Holy Quran.
LG spoke about the significance of the holy month of Ramadan and the five pillars of Islam, emphasizing the importance of Zakat (alms-giving) and helping those in need. He also highlighted the teachings of all religions that focus on helping the needy and the importance of humanity.
The LG informed the attendees about the need to work on all fronts for the overall development of Ladakh and sought cooperation from the people. He also highlighted four areas that require immediate attention: managing and using water judiciously, encouraging people to plant saplings, protecting and promoting pashmina goat and pashmina wool, and sensitizing children to avoid drug abuse. He sought cooperation from elected representatives, officials, and the public.
The LG also discussed his plans to make Ladakh “Corruption and Delay Free” and stated that visible results can be achieved within six months if everyone works sincerely towards the goal.
Earlier, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed highlighted the significance of Ramadan and its health benefits, stressing the need for people of all faiths to observe the fast. President of Anjuman Imamia Leh, Ashraf Ali Barcha, informed the LG that the Imam Bargah was inaugurated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama after its renovation in 2007.
