On October 6, a meeting regarding the rationalization of motor vehicles in Ladakh was presided over by Amit Sharma, IAS, Secretary of Transport for the Union Territory of Ladakh. Recently, the UT Administration established a committee to evaluate motor vehicle proposals from various departments, aiming to assess the current status and genuine need for vehicles in Ladakh.
During the meeting, Secretary of Transport Amit Sharma elucidated the fundamental objective and reasoning behind forming this crucial committee, emphasizing the visionary guidance of Lieutenant Governor Brig (Retd) Dr. B.D. Mishra and Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal. The goal is to ensure optimal and rational utilization of Ladakh’s transportation resources.
The committee, led by Transport Secretary Amit Sharma and comprising members such as Director of Accounts and Treasuries Safdar Ali, Deputy Director of Planning Tsering Angdus, Deputy Director of Garages Dr. Namgyal, and Under Secretary to LG Vivek Sharma, engaged in in-depth discussions on the matter. They later briefed the Advisor on the decisions made during the meeting.
Initially, the committee will gather data on all existing vehicles currently in use in Ladakh. Subsequent decisions regarding rationalization will be made based on this data. Transport Secretary Amit Sharma instructed the relevant parties to promptly collect necessary information on newly purchased vehicles, old vehicles suitable for decommissioning, and data on functional and public utility vehicles in Ladakh.
Amit Sharma emphasized that once the committee receives the essential data, a comprehensive report will be prepared outlining the optimal requirement of motor vehicles in Ladakh. Special consideration will be given to the challenging terrains and harsh weather conditions prevailing in the Union Territory of Ladakh, ensuring their rational utilization.
