Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), conducted a review of BSNL’s 4G saturation project in Ladakh on June 13. During the meeting, Sandeep Govil, Director (Mobile) of BSNL Board, New Delhi, presented an update on the progress of installing 4G towers across Ladakh. Govil reported that the project is scheduled for completion by September 2024, with 241 4G towers planned for installation in various villages.
The LG instructed ADGP Ladakh to ensure police escort for trucks transporting materials from Zojila to tower sites, ensuring unhindered delivery. Priority was given to Army and ITBP locations, emphasizing strict adherence to project timelines. The DC Kargil was tasked with overseeing a review meeting to monitor the project’s progress.
Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal informed the LG that land allocation for tower installation has been completed, and power supply for the towers has been secured through the Power Development Department, Ladakh. He proposed monthly review meetings starting from the 1st of each month to monitor project advancement, particularly the 82 locations in wildlife areas.
Executive Councillor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee of LAHDC Leh updated that foundation work for towers in two locations in Durbuk sub-division has been finished. He urged BSNL to expedite tower installations, especially in the Changthang area.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikanth Suse, confirmed that the administration has facilitated land allocation, power supply, and road clearance for BSNL’s operational requirements.
