Under the leadership of Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, and with Justice Atul Sreedharan as the Patron-in-chief of Ladakh Legal Services Authority, the 4th National Lok Adalat was organized throughout the Union Territory of Ladakh on December 9. The event aimed to promote extensive participation and facilitate settlements in various cases, including those related to Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce cases under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act, and money recovery cases.
According to reports from the District Legal Services Authorities, a total of 763 cases were taken up by 12 benches during the day-long National Lok Adalat held at various courts across the Union Territory of Ladakh, with 446 cases successfully disposed of. The proceedings resulted in an awarded compensation or settlement amounting to Rs 99,53,215 in civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity bills, land acquisition matters, family disputes, cheque dishonor, and bank recovery cases.
Spalzes Angmo, the Member Secretary of Ladakh Legal Services Authority, expressed gratitude to all participants, including Judicial Officers, Chairpersons, Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) and Tehsil Legal Services Committees (TLSC), Advocates, representatives of insurance companies and banks, court staff, and litigants. She commended their pragmatic approach in resolving a significant number of cases.
